SOUL TEMPO PERFORMS
AT DEMOCRATIC DEBATE

Gospel group Soul Tempo was honored to open the Democratic presidential debate held June 28, 2007, at Howard University in Washington, D.C., and televised nationally on PBS.

The group sang an a capaella version of the national anthem, as well as "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" and "The Lord's Prayer."

Nationally known TV and radio host Tavis Smiley moderated the event. Tom Joyner, host of the radio program The Tom Joyner Morning Show, also participated.

The debate featured eight candidates for the presidential nomination of the Democratic Party - Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, Chris Dodd, Joe Biden, Bill Richardson, Dennis Kucinich, and Mike Gravel.

The All-American Presidential Forums on PBS were the first time that a panel exclusively composed of journalists of color questioned the presidential candidates on prime time TV.

A similar debate for Republican candidates was held Sept. 27 at Morgan State University in Baltimore.
